Masters Set 8: Beaten

I finally beat set 8 of the masters battle on battle revolution. My prior attempts had left me ready to hurl the wii mote. Mysterial’s Kyogre outruns a 30 IV 252 EV Timid Jolteon and a hasty Darkrai. Since Kyogre has a base 90 speed I figured he had to be holding a choice scarf. He uses Water Spout which usually kills both pokémon in one hit. He then proceeds to annihilate the other two that come in. When I’m lucky I can take one pokémon down with me. Usually I just die a quick miserable death.

After calming down and strategizing a bit I formulated a plan.

I put a choice scarf on my Palkia (Two can play at that game!) who knows thunder, spacial rend, surf, and ancient power (because I want aqua jet, but don’t have enough shards for it at the moment).

I removed my beloved Kingdra from the party (who hasn’t seen much playtime since Palkia was added) and added a Toxicroak. The Toxicroak has dry skin, so he gets HPs back when its raining. Since there are psychic pokémon on Mysterial’s team (Latios & Mewtwo) I figured a Focus Sash would be prudent. Toxicroak is, after all, four times weak to psychic attacks. Toxicroak’s usefulness comes from Sucker Punch which hits first if the opponent is attacking.

True to form, Mysterial sent out Kyogre and Mewtwo. I sent out Palkia and Toxicroak. Toxicroak sucker punched Mewtwo down to about a quarter life. Palkia thundered Kyogre. Kyogre’s water spout did laughable damage to Palkia and not a thing to Toxicroak. Mewtwo made a valiant attempt to kill the Toxicroak who hung on using his focus sash.

Toxicroak sucker punched Mewtwo again the next round and killed him. Palkia was stuck thundering, which he did to Kyogre.

I didn’t want to kill Kyogre with Toxicroak because water spout actually heals Toxicroak, so I futilely rain danced instead.Toxicroak was back from death’s door after Kyogre hit him and had almost a quarter life. Dry skin healed him more at the end of the round.

Mysterial sent out Manaphy next. Toxicroak attempted to sucker punch Manaphy, but it failed. I thundered him with the Palkia. It didn’t kill him. Manaphy used calm mind. Palkia thundered Manaphy and didn’t quite kill him. Kyogre water spouted and gave Toxicroak more HPs.

To my dismay, Mysterial withdrew Kyogre and switched in Palkia. Eeep! Toxicroak sucker punched Palkia doing about 1/4 damage. My Palkia thundered the little Manaphy into its watery grave.

I wanted to kill Mysterial’s Palkia with my Palkia’s spacial rend, but I was locked into thundering. I was not about to let my Palkia die to his, so I withdrew him and sent in my Jolteon as a sacrificial electric dog thing. Mysterial sent Kyogre back out. I sucker punched him with my Toxicroak. Kyogre proceeded to thunder Toxicroak. Thankfully it didn’t kill him. Predictably, Mysterial’s Palkia used spacial rend on Jolteon killing the little guy instantly.

I sent my Palkia back into the fray. Toxicroak sucker punched Kyogre. My Palkia spacial rended Mysterial’s Palkia—who died. Woo! I was worried. Kyogre thundered the toxicroak and killed him. Good toxicroak. He did his job admirably well.

I sent out Darkrai, the last Pokémon in reserve. I was locked into spacial rending with my Palkia. I used it on Kyogre and he went down. Finally. Darkrai didn’t get to go. I’m sure he was disappointed he didn’t get to dark pulse.

After that the credits rolled and I got 10,000+ battle points. Hooray!
