Crestwd: Spring Year 3

All of my planting paid off. I was finally able to ship 100 of every crop and unlock wheat. I planted a few bundles. They have yet to sprout or do anything. Apparently they stay in the seed stage for a month. I don’t know whether to water the wheat or just poke it with a stick.

Toward the end of the season all of my strawberries died. All of them. And I had a lot of strawberry plants. I thought maybe I overwatered…or underwatered. But upon closer inspection I think maybe they just got too much sun. That’s all right. I was sick of making strawberry jam anyway.

ooooooh Shiny Teleport Stone Between the strawberries and the cucumbers I amassed a wealth of dough. I shipped about a million salads and ended up with over 100,000G tucked under my mattress. Chen I’m sure, could smell the money on me and when I walked into his store he had a great new trinket to show me: a teleport stone. I was wowed by the thought of it, to get anywhere I wanted in the blink of an eye. But I resisted. I have a farm to maintain and that flashy stone is not in my budget yet. Maybe after I’ve expanded the barn and built some indoor plumbing.

Copper Medal? But Yama got Gold! This season’s contests went much better than previous contests. Yama (my sheep) won first place at the sheep festival netting me a yellow wonderful. She even beat out a suffolk sheep. I was proud.

I didn’t think Silver was going to win her contest. She started out going really slowly. But her pace improved and even though her time wasn’t the best she still managed to win by a significant lead (if we’re talking Olympic tenths and hundredths of seconds.)My Best time is actually 11 something. I guess silver chokes under pressure

Spring Harmony Day passed me by without my even knowing. I guess the boys in town were supposed to bring me presents, but I didn’t have time to stop farming long enough to check at home. Maybe next year.

I tried to make time to stop by animal island and feed the ducks. The ducks love me. I mean really love me. They were at nine hearts at the beginning of the month, but now they’re maxed out. They brought me bazillions of big fish and not one, not two, but three bottles. And two fish fossils. And a pirate treasure. I love the ducks. But I’ve switched to feeding monkeys. In a season or two maybe I’ll have some bananas for them, but for now I’m giving them buckwheat and simultaneously feeding sparrows. They don’t love me—yet.

A SUNSTONE!After animal island I like to stop by mushroom island. If Wada or Shea is outside I say hi, but I don’t go out of my way to befriend them. I was really trying to make nicey nice with Spoink, my pig. He is only up to two hearts and likes to play hide and seek in the bushes and run like hell. It gets a little old trying to steal mushrooms from his slobbery snout. But he did bring me a truffle. I’m not really sure what to do with it. Do I cook with it? Or just sell it? I don’t know, so I stuck it in the fridge.

On one of my visits Spoink was toting something in his mouth that didn’t look squishy and fungus-like. He had a sunstone! I’m so proud. That’s better than a truffle!

Why Vaughn is so AloofI didn’t have too much time to woo my suitors this season. Most of them are pretty low maintenance now anyway (thankfully). I’m still on the fence between Will and Vaughn. I was about to give up on Vaughn when I noticed that his heart was fluttering green! He does like me! Just not a ton. LOL.

I gave Will flowers when I found them, but I didn’t go out of my way to stalk him. His feelings toward me have escalated to orange. I almost don’t want to talk to him for a bit because I still want to hold out for Vaughn. Poor misunderstood Vaughn.

Oh well. I have delayed my pending marriage for at least another season. Summer starts tomorrow and I have a ton of crops to ship so I can unlock soybeans.

Ciao!

Year 3 in Sunshine Islands

I bit off a bit more than I could chew this spring. I planted a lot. I guess it was because my watering can is upgraded and I can water nine squares at a time, so I thought it would be easy to take care of everything. I thought wrong. I have been up until 4am watering and harvesting for the last two nights in a row. After four the sun creeps up. I scurry off to bed and somehow managed to rise at six. What was I thinking?

I finally decided to give up on my slow pursuit of Vaughn (I think) and focus my attention on Will. Sure Denny, Pierre, Elliot, and Shea all love me and would happily accept the blue feather and run off to the chapel with me. I just can’t picture a life with a stinky fisherman, gluttonous cook, wild man (ok, that could have some interesting moments), or plain old Elliot. Nope, I have to go with the ones that are hard to get. If I were really stubborn I would hold out for Mark since he is only at a purple heart, but he just doesn’t do it for me. I can almost make Vaughn’s favorite dish, porridge, which would make wooing him a little bit faster…and makes me think that maybe flower loving Will isn’t the one for me (even though he’s already at yellow heart status.) Decisions!

I need to decide soon because I need to get married and get knocked up so my kid can give me a sun stone. I have priorities. I only need a few more sunstones. I need 13 more stones. I have none of the “maker” sun stones (though I’m working on obtaining the cheese, mayonnaise, and yarn maker stones). I also need two more chickens, one more cow, and one more sheep to get stones from Mirabelle. My pig hates me. He won’t give me his stone. Then, I just need the one from my future baby—who doesn’t cough it up until he/she is two. See? I need to get married. STAT.

When I’m not busy worrying about boy troubles, I like to spend time on Animal Island. I have recruited 20 ducks who fetch all manner of fish things for me. I have them up to nine hearts. When they hit 10 I think I will attempt to recruit monkeys. They bring you gifts of lumber and stone. I always need more building materials, and they might even bring gold material stone—something I’ve only ogled from the other side of Gannon’s counter.

My livestock are thriving. I’m hoping to actually win a festival with one in the near future. I have two cows, one regular and one Jersey Cow. I have two sheep, one regular and one Suffolk. I have 4 plain old chickens. Celebi (my favorite chicken) is almost throwing maxed eggs, so I may be able to buy a Silkie Hen any day now. I even have an empty feeder available for the chick.

My fruit trees aren’t doing much. I just planted them last year. A couple of them didn’t survive the winter and I had to replant. Only one of them is to the third stage and looks like a tree. I keep hoping it’s the banana tree because I want to feed bananas to the monkeys. Time will tell.

Though I have raised greenhouse island I’m a bit too poor to afford a greenhouse. I have a feeling that would be just one more thing to try and fit into my hectic days anyway. Maybe after I settle down with a man I can devote a bit more time to nurturing perfect veggies.

This year I planted rice for the first time. I keep forgetting it’s up there. Thank god I don’t have to water it too! I did check on it the other day and it has at least sprouted. I guess it takes a while to grow. Maybe I can harvest rice (and make porridge for Vaughn…) in the summer or fall.

Well, with any luck I’ll marry soon. Then I can tell you all about my marriage woes. Until then, I have farming to do!

I was not expecting the Mewtwo. I should have because I was wandering around his cave, but he still scared me! Me and my little Pikachu did not attempt to aprehend, but fled!

Harvest Moon

I’ve never played Harvest Moon. I’ve heard about it for years. You farm. You raise animals. You befriend villagers, get married and eventually have a kid. It sounds like a novel animal crossing type game sans the animal villagers.

I finally rented Harvest Moon Sunshine Islands from Gamefly. Initially I was a little bored and confused by the game. I didn’t have the instruction manual, so I wasn’t sure how to do basic things like give my fellow villagers presents. Once I finally did figure out how to give them something, they would snub their noses at me and not accept my fabulous gift of weeds or an empty can.

I found a great site detailing the ins and outs of the game. While not complete, it has helped me tremendously. I’m still not the best farmer around (though I’ve won all my farming competitions thus far).

Almost a year has gone by in the game. Each season is one month long. And I have yet to raise enough cash to build a barn. I accidentally raised the most useless island first (link island which is tiny with nothing of interest on it. It connects other islands…that I haven’t raised yet) and have only recently begun sucking up to residents to get more sun stones. I can’t figure out what male bachelor my character fancies as husband material. I’m leaning toward the fisherman (Denny) or the stuck up cowboy who hates me (Vaughn) although I feed Pierre egg soup every day and he seems completely enamored by my third rate cooking. I suppose it’s too soon to worry about marriage just yet since I haven’t raised the island with the church on it.

All in all I like this Harvest Moon game, tedious though it sometimes is. The days in it are sometimes too short and sometimes too long. And there is never ever enough money or wood. But I look forward to the little festivals (even though I can’t compete in a lot of them because I don’t have many animals—at the time of this post I have three chickens and a dog). But by this time next year I fully intend to have a cow…or a horse…

Giant Mewtwo scares me. Any Mewtwo scares me. Probably because one kicked my butt at the video game championships in 2005 and I haven’t gotten over it. LOL.

Day 3 on the 赤いギャラドス hunt

赤いギャラドス: 20 or so
ユミカ: 0

I didn’t play the original gameboy color games, so I never got the shiny gyarados. I have decided that this one needs to have awesome stats (unlike my few other shinies).

I have been soft resetting for a “good” red gyarados in Soul Silver since Friday night. I have a jolly ralts synchronizer in the lead to aid in the acquisition of a good nature. Unfortunately they are all jolly with a 3 speed or so (out of 31). ugh! Let the hunt continue!

Let’s see, what have I been up to?

On a foolish whim I preordered a Japanese copy of Pokémon Heart Gold for myself. I don’t speak Japanese. Don’t let my 1 ½ quarters in college fool you. That preorder warranted a crash course in Japanese, so I have picked up my copy of My Japanese Coach in earnest this time. I have to at least be able to recognize the hiragana by September 12! (or shortly thereafter 5-10 day shipping and all). I am currently ranked a pre-schooler and am up to lesson 10. I don’t know how many lessons there are, but I think I’ve got quite a trek ahead of me. I am trying to do two lessons a day. They are so far fairly short, but I do worry about retaining the alphabet. I mean, I’ve forgotten it all once already.

I am still playing Pokémon Platinum auf Deutsch. Three languages in one head? How will I live at that speed? I got my member card to unlock Darkrai, but I haven’t beaten the game yet, so I can’t get him. That’t ok with me. I am still enjoying running around with Rotom in my party who is currently in Microwave form and just helped me stomp gym six (the steel gym).

I just sort of…stopped… playing Devil Survivor. That’s typical of me. I play a game, get towards the end and then put it down and never finish it. I keep taking it with me in my little DS card case, but I haven’t played it in a while. I should dust it off, beat it and call it a day.

I am (in my mind) 99% done with work, which means I might start playing Kingdom Hearts again. Probably in a week or two as I go on vacation next week. I am still excited about the Kingdom Hearts DS game that releases in September and finally got around to preordering it.

I found a strategy guide for Chain of Memories at my local used bookstore yesterday and picked it up. I may take COM with me on vacation and skip around a bit. I know they remade that one for the PS2. I don’t think I will end up picking it up though.

And lastly, for some unknown reason I have started playing The New Super Mario Bros. It’s hardly new anymore, but when it was I didn’t like it. I never got past world 1. I’m on world 5 now, and I think it’s a lot of fun, but I’m annoyed by the official guide:

  • Hello official guide? Do you think you can tell me how to get to world 4?
  • Um, no. But here are the maps for world 4.
  • Maps are great official guide, but not if I can’t figure out how to get there to use them!

I had to go to gamefaqs to find out how to get there. Now where do I get a mini mushroom?
